Public Hearing Authorized for DNR Proposal Adopting New NAAQS Standards for NO2 and SO2
October 27, 2011The Wisconsin Natural Resources Board met yesterday, October 26, for its October 2011 board meeting. Among other issues before the board was a request for authorization for public hearing on proposed rules affecting NR 404 and 484 pertaining to adopting the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2).

EPA Proposes Changes to its Review of New Source Performance Standards
October 24, 2011The EPA is proposing to change the way it conducts its eight-year review of some new source performance standards (NSPS). Under the proposal, the EPA would forgo review of a standard if it finds the current level of control is appropriate, no new or modified sources are expected in the next eight years, or more stringent Clean Air Act standards exist for the sources.
Report Questions Renewable Fuel Standard

DNR Seeks Comments on Water Use Permits
October 19, 2011In order to implement the Great Lakes Compact in Wisconsin, large withdrawers in the Great Lakes basin will need a Water Use permit beginning on December 8, 2011. Comments on the proposed permitting documents are due by October 31, 2011 so that the DNR can finalize the permits before they are issued beginning on December 8, 2011.
Emergency Rule Extends Fishing Season
October 18, 2011The Wisconsin Natural Resources Board, at an emergency meeting October 17th, approved extending the commercial whitefish season to October 31st in Green Bay and Lake Michigan for 2011 in order to ensure Wisconsin’s commercial fishers are competitive with Michigan fishers.
EPA says “Farm Dust” Standard will Remain the Same
October 17, 2011In a letter to Sen. Debbie Stabenow D-Mich., chairwoman of the Senate Agriculture Committee, EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson said she will recommend to the White House Office of Management and Budget that existing particulate matter regulations governing coarse particulate matter from industrial and agricultural operations, commonly known as the farm dust regulations or PM 10, remain the same.
25 States Ask Court to Delay Utility MACT Rule
October 14, 2011November 16, 2011 is the court-ordered deadline for the EPA to release new rules governing mercury emissions from power plants. A motion filed by the Utility Air Regulatory Group, backed by an amicus brief from 25 states, asks the court to extend the deadline until November 2012.
Environmental Groups Sue EPA Over Discarded Ozone Standard
October 13, 2011Earlier this week five environmental and public health groups filed a lawsuit against the EPA in response to the Obama administration’s September 2nd decision to delay any new standards until 2013. The lawsuit was filed in the federal court of appeals in Washington D.C.
